Hi all. I'm interesting in Kinemac and not only for video. I see in demo mode that it is easy to create 3D images and export them like png with alfa channel. But if I would like to export a wireframe sphere for catalogue use, 300 dpi and 5000x4000 pixel...is it possible?
Thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome to the forum,

Could you explain what you mean by "wireframe sphere for catalogue use"? Do you mean the image of a sphere that will be printed on a catalogue?

Please note that in Kinemac you can only specify the size of the stage, not the dpi. Dpi has to do with printers, therefore at 5000px by 4000px, you are exporting 20 million pixels and, at 300dpi, your printer will produce a 16.67in by 13.33in print.

Although I don't know the technical reasons for it, in my experience, images will not usually export beyond a given stage size (somewhat related to the max resolution of the video card being used).

Please keep in mind that Kinemac is primarily an animation app. Other apps, such as Photoshop, are specifically designed to create high-resolution images for printing purposes...

Hi Msabene,
thanks for your answer.
Yes, exactly what I mean: a wireframe sphere (with alpha channel) that will be imported in a photoshop document (a 300 dpi/inch, letter size).
With photoshop it's possible to manipulate an image but not create it, like a wireframe sphere or others.

A 300 pixels/inch image letter size (8,5x11 inches) is equivalent of a 72 pixels/inch image big size: 35x45 inches or 2550x3300 points.
So that's why I ask if it is possible to export a frame of 2550x3300 points or greater at 72 pixels/inch.
With kinemac it seems that could be created no more than 1920x1080 (HD frame) frame size.
..or not? Or the frame size depend by the camera view size?

Hi mickmick,

While you can set a stage that large, the export function doesn't always work for such large sizes. I haven't been able to figure out why or at what specific size, but it happens.

I consider Kinemac to be an excellent animation app. While it allows you to create objects based on basic shapes or to import them (3ds and obj format), it's not really meant to be a modeling or drawing app.

By the way, you'd be surprised about what you can actually create with Photoshop. It's definitely not only for image manipulation. As a simple example, take a look at a shaded sphere here: http://www.colorsketches.com/2009/07/rapid-shading-in-photoshop/

Hi Msabene,
kinemac is a powerful app, easy to use and very interesting for creating video animation.
Noone app is so immediate.
...and photoshop could surprise me!
Thanks a lot for you support!

It depends (mainly) on the VRAM available on your graphic card.
The textures and the geometries (triangles and squares) earn memory.
The antialias earns memory too.
The big size of the rendering frame earns memory.

Are you saying KMC out put size is limited by graphic card VRAM, no matter what CPU size?

Kinemac is a graphics-intensive app, therefore, it relies heavily on the graphics card and not necessarily on the CPU. Assuming that your CPU meets the minimum system requirements, VRAM becomes a key variable...
